A family tradition of precision, passion, and play

In 1984, Joseph Levitan opened a modest coin-operated machine repair shop in a small garage in Canada, laying the cornerstone for what would become a multigenerational family enterprise. Joseph, an experienced craftsman with a passion for precision mechanics, built the business on principles of integrity, quality, and meticulous attention to detail.

When Joseph's son Val joined the business, he quickly learned from his father's extensive expertise. Joseph patiently guided Val through every aspect of machine repair — meticulously fixing buttons, polishing cabinets, and fine-tuning mechanics until each machine felt brand new. Together, their days were filled with the steady hum of machines, the scent of solder, and the quiet satisfaction of bringing broken games back to life.

Word spread about Joseph and Val's commitment to craftsmanship. Customers returned repeatedly, appreciating the genuine care Joseph instilled into every project. Each machine they worked on reflected Joseph's lifelong commitment to excellence.

Shaping the future of gaming — one machine at a time

As their reputation grew, Val's vision for growth complemented Joseph's experience, laying the foundation for greater ambitions.

By the early 1990s, Joseph and Val recognized the potential to expand beyond simple repairs. Under Val's direction and Joseph's guiding influence, JVL began designing and creating its own games, driven by innovation and technical excellence — where hardware, software, and aesthetics converged seamlessly, setting new standards in entertainment technology.

The company strategically positioned JVL to focus on creating games that emphasized fairness, quality, and entertainment, earning widespread industry respect.

Tradition, innovation, and a personal touch

Joseph and Val approached game design with the mindset of master craftsmen. Just as watchmakers carefully assemble each intricate part, Joseph mentored JVL's engineers, artists, and designers, instilling a philosophy of continuous refinement. Math models, graphics, and responsive interfaces were developed with precise attention, always seeking to elevate player experience. Innovation was paramount, consistently guided by Joseph's belief in the pursuit of excellence.

Today, over four decades since Joseph's modest beginnings, JVL has evolved into a true family enterprise. Joseph's legacy endures strongly, with Val now joined by his own children — the third generation — who bring fresh perspectives balanced by Joseph's foundational values.

When considering JVL, the answer reflects Joseph's original values: direct access to decision-makers, a commitment to collaborative partnerships, and a dedication to innovation rooted firmly in tradition. Unlike larger corporations, JVL maintains the close-knit environment Joseph established, respecting their coin-operated gaming heritage while embracing future possibilities.

Three generations, one vision

At the heart of JVL's identity lies their slogan, We Take Our Games Seriously. For Joseph Levitan, it was more than just a motto — it was a guiding principle.

Joseph believed deeply in hiring only the best talent — individuals who shared his values of excellence, integrity, and meticulous craftsmanship. This commitment remains central to JVL today, ensuring every game created meets the highest standards and reflects the passion and dedication of an exceptional team.

Joseph Levitan's enduring legacy continues through Val's children — the third generation — and future generations of the Levitan family, who carry forward the family's unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and integrity.
